What to do if you have Symptoms

Government advice recommends that you stay at home for 7 days if you have either:
  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • change in sense of smell or taste
This will help to protect others in your community while you are infectious.
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.
You do not need to contact NHS 111 to tell them you’re staying at home.
Please visit the Government advice webpages for more information.

Public Health England has has published guidance on:
  • Staying at home, for households with possible COVID-19 infection
  • Social distancing to protect vulnerable groups
  • The Department of Education has set up a helpline offering guidance for anyone with education related questions. Please call 0800 046 8687, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm or email dFE.coronavirushelpline@education.gov.uk
  • Learn more about the provisions being made for vulnerable children and young people.

Guidance for Volunteers in the Community

Please follow these simple guidelines from Nottinghamshire County Council to help keep yourself and the person that you are helping safe:
  • Ensure you keep yourself up to date and follow the current advice
  • If you have a high temperature or a new continuous cough, or if anyone you live with has these symptoms then stay at home.
  • If you and the people you live with are well, then you may wish to assist neighbours who are self-isolating.
  • Do not enter the house if someone is self-isolating. Even if you are only trying to help, to do so will potentially put them at risk of becoming infected.
  • If you are asked to collect shopping then it is best if you just buy the essentials, so you are only dealing with a small amount of money.
  • If you are dropping off shopping or medication then you can knock on the door and leave it on the doorstep. If this is not possible then keep at least two metres (three steps) away from each other.
  • Please ensure you keep wash your hands, for 20 seconds using soap and hot water before you leave your house and as soon as you get home. If soap and water are not available when you are out and you have some hand sanitiser then you can use this. Avoid touching your eyes and mouth.
  • If you offer to walk a dog, then if you have your own lead at home, you could consider using this to avoid handling your neighbours lead.
  • If you are concerned that the resident that you are helping has become unwell and you would like further advice on whether they need medical assistance then please use the NHS online service for further advice https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19/
  • If you become concerned that an adult with care and support needs that you are helping is suffering from abuse or neglect, or if you have concerns that another volunteer maybe taking advantage of an adult with care and support needs and they are unable to protect themselves, please contact Nottinghamshire County Council on 0300 500 80 80 or https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/care/safeguarding/mash

Advice on Avoiding Accidents in the Home

Many of us are staying at home due to coronavirus, increasing the likelihood of accidents. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has some great advice to help prevent accidents in the home, for different age groups and locations, like keeping gardens safe for children.

Bin Collections

Personal waste (for example used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths can be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags.

These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste within your own room. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external household waste bin (the grey wheeled bin).
Other household waste can be disposed of as normal.

Recycling Centres

Note that Nottingham County Council introduced a booking system from 1 September 2020 for users of the Household Waste and Recycling Centre in West Bridgford. Further information about recycling centres can be found on the Nottinghamshire County Council website.

Car Parks

Details of Rushcliffe Borough Council Car Parks and charges are available here.

Car parks at the County Council’s country parks and green spaces are open.
These includes Rufford Abbey Country Park, Holme Pierrepont Country Park- home of the National Water Sports Centre, Bestwood Country Park, Cotgrave Country Park and car parks attached to 1,900 hectares of green spaces the Council manages. All other facilities and play areas at the parks will remain closed.

Residents should check park opening times before they travel.
Full details of County Council parks can be found here www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/culture-leisure/country-parks whilst green space information is available https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/countryside-and-green-spaces/green-spaces

Village Hall

The Village Hall in Granby is closed until further notice.

Social and Health Care

Rushcliffe Borough Council is working with the Local Resilience Forum in Nottinghamshire to ensure that social care continues to be delivered through Nottinghamshire County Council and partners.

Planning Applications

Rushcliffe Borough Council continues to deliver their Planning Service but there may be some delays as the team responds to the COVID-19 situation in line with the organisation’s flexible working protocols. The best way to submit any application is on the Planning Portal or iApply (please note the Planning Portal charge an admin fee for handling an application).

Paper format applications direct to Rushcliffe Borough Council may be significantly delayed at this time.

Alternatively subject to file size (attachments with a cumulative size no greater than 18MB), applications can be submitted by email to planningandgrowth@rushcliffe.gov.uk and fees paid on the Borough Council webform. When paying your fee, please make sure you quote a reference if you have one or ensure you enter the address to which the application relates.

Stay Safe and be Aware of Fraud

We're asking residents to 'take five' to stop fraud and ensure you do not fall victim to a fraudulent attack by phone, text, email or online during this outbreak. The County council has provided information on SCAMS and links to Action Fraud.

Remember to take five minutes to reflect and step back from the situation if a phone call, message or online exchange ever requests personal or financial information. Even if an individual says they are the bank or other trusted organisation, you still need to take the time to stop and think about what’s really going on. Guidance from the County Council on residents who need support from volunteers can be found here.

Video Teleconferencing with ZOOM

As more individuals work from home and may not have previously used this software for video teleconferencing, the security advice provided by the New Jersey Cybersecurity & Communications Integration Cell will reduce the opportunity for unauthorized persons gaining access to your teleconference and display lewd, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate images and language.
